Evidence of greater possibilities in the development of a greener reality

Anecdotal Evidence

Dear everyday witnesses,

Are you experiencing the green new real? Are you adopting more environmentally friendly practices? Do you see evidence of change around you?

Send us 1-10 images and a brief explanation of changes in your life, neighborhood or city. To share you can:

“I now eat breakfast while watching mason bees. I’ve noticed that they are pollinating a 10-year old plum tree that has never fruited. We’re optimistic that this is the year.
Wouldn’t it be extraordinary if this were the year?
At a time in my life where I’ve never thought more about the life cycle of food and my place in the system, I have a deepening appreciation of food and reverence for growers. And i am thankful to be witness to the work of these bees.”

“I don’t take a phone with me when I walk the dog. I enjoy the scent of lilac, looking at the trees unfurl, and watching children play. I cringe at the sight of goat’s head ground cover with its sweet yellow blooms in spring and its painful barbs in late summer. There’s a cooper’s hawk calling and a robin ranting about its territory in a run-on sentence that doesn’t want to end. Little dog alarms go off behind five-foot fences and radios rap. Oil changes, card tables, and wine glasses sip from a safe distance in the maw of an electric garage door.
.
And early one morning, Ellie and I are in the final stretch of our walk, and a silent raven approaches. Or is it a crow? Two features that distinguish a raven from a crow are often times impossible to see from afar. But the three-foot wingspan of this bird, perfectly perpendicular to me and my dog, soars directly toward us. Eyes hungry to know the answer to my question, I look straight up. In that instant, the five finger-feathers outstretched and wedge-shaped tail pass overhead and announce with authority, I am raven.”

“This scene at my neighborhood playground is suggestive of the new physical restrictions in our global communities. As one who works from home a great deal, I see a fairly consistent pace of foot traffic from my second-floor office—same people, same dogs. Yet now I see neighbors I didn’t know I had, family members of individuals I’d always chatted with, and now, everyone smiles and waves.”

“In Singapore, being a city, the chickens we see are usually dead ones hanging on hooks in the Chinese chicken rice stall or at KFC. This morning I saw an animal at a distance in the park. I thought it was a small dog but it turned out to be a chicken. It‘s very rare to see a live chicken walking in the park here.”
